Lighthouse Assisted Living Homes helps families make informed decisions by giving them sufficient information about our services and options to pay for long-term care and senior housing.

Many families often ask us if they can use their Medicare benefits to pay for assisted living programs. To help you choose the right payment option, here are some information on what Medicare will and will not pay for:

Medicare Eligibility
Medicare pays the health care costs of clients who are at least 65 years old. Younger clients suffering from end-stage renal disease or certain disabilities also receive benefits from the health insurance program.

Long-term Care Services
In general, Medicare does not cover long-term care services or custodial care, including assistance in performing activities of daily living, such as bathing and getting in and out of bed. The insurance program, however, may pay for a limited stay in a skilled nursing facility when your loved one meets the following conditions:

Your family member had recently stayed in the hospital for at least three days.
Your family brought the patient to a nursing facility certified by Medicare 30 days prior the hospital stay.
The doctor required skilled care for the patient, such as occupational or physical therapy.
Your loved one needs skilled care for a hospital-related medical problem or a condition that started when your family member is receiving care from a nursing facility for a medical problem.
Medicare Coverage
Medicare will pay for the health care expenses of qualified beneficiaries for the first 20 days. From day 21 to 100, your family pays $152 per day and Medicare covers the balance. After 100 days, your family pays for all expenses incurred in a skilled nursing facility.

Hospice Care
Patients who qualify for hospice care may use the insurance program to pay for medications and pain relief drugs, medical equipment, and short-term respite care.

While Medicare coverage does not include any kind of assisted living program, Lighthouse Assisted Living Homes offer other payment options, including Medicaid (based on specific criteria), long-term care insurance, and private funds.

Give us a call and let us discuss the best option for your loved one.
